A Note: Madness

Mad.

That's what they call some people. They also say they're insane, crazy, off the deep end…

Maybe they're right.

Maybe not?

We think we know how to judge them, by their actions.

But… what if they're not crazy.

Could it be that they just see things differently?

Maybe?

I guess that would depend on who you talk to.

It could be that when you see things through a different light you simply react differently to the events around you. Is that necessarily a bad thing? No… not really. Not always.

Diversity is good, diversity makes life interesting.

Of course there are the crazies you run into which you can judge as mad. There are those few who aren’t fit for interaction with society. The only true crazies are those who are a danger to themselves and others. Well and then there are a few others you run into.

I ran into a guy a few days back. I was waiting for my coffee at a little shop nearby work at around lunch time. While I was there an older man wandered in.

His hair stuck up and shot in all directions. His jacket was old and worn. And he yelled random phrases. I'm sure he knew what he was talking about but no one else did. Then he got his coffee and was gone. He swept out of the shop and out onto the street.

He was in and out of the shop within minutes. I had to wait at least twice as long for my coffee. So maybe that was the plan. He did after all get immediate service. Could it have all been an act?

Who knows?

Maybe he was crazy, but who has the right to say. What would give one person the right to judge another?

Nothing would.

My point is not that no one is insane. I am not saying that no one is a danger.

My point is how do we judge?
