Interpretation
She was still. Alone, she sat in the stone portal of the window contemplating the world beyond the glass. Memories cascaded around her and she let them come.
Outside the sun shone with the fervor of early morning, and from her place she could see the sun glittering on the dewdrop glaze which graced the trees.
Today was a day to reminisce and look to the past.
The stone at her back was cold; she shifted uncomfortably against it before settling down again. It wasn't too cold she decided and this was one of her favorite places to be. The cold wouldn’t keep her away. So she sat quietly staring. Staring past the whitewashed stone walls. Staring past the peeling paint on the window frame. Staring out into the world beyond.
Staring. Forever staring.
Staring into the past, looking towards the future. Trying to interpret the present.
In the room behind her the radio played softly. Occasionally the song fell out of tune as the old radio failed and then recovered. She didn't mind, it seemed to fit somehow.
She relaxed and laid her head back against the bricks. Thinking back on the past she realized things had always seemed so simple. Not anymore. Now every decision seemed to carry more weight, more responsibility… more consequence. The price of growing up she guessed. Regardless things seemed to be looking up. She just had to make sure that things stayed that way.
With a sigh she slid out of the window. She, as always, had things that needed to be done. But it was good to take a little time to sit and think.
Sometimes all one needed was to take a moment to put everything in perspective. That could be all that was needed to keep going
