If You Could
The stream flows swiftly before your eyes, in moments it carries away the crisp yellow leaves you had thrown in but moments before. Dry leaves crunch as you wrap your fingers around another handful of the autumn snow. After a moment's contemplation of the fallen foliage you release it once more over the water. You stare on as the leaves swirl down to kiss the stream of liquid racing along down below. Once they brush its surface they are again swept out of sight. The whirling waters reflect the current state of your own mind.
Your thoughts today linger on the past. They remain on the choices you have made, the decisions you have regretted, and the opportunities you feel you have missed. Your thoughts spin, just as the leaves did, as they meander from reflection to reflection. You wonder… would things have changed if you had done something's differently, made some different choices? Would things be better or would you have new regrets?
A cold wind blows through the surrounding trees, raising goose bumps on your skin. The autumn is heavy in the air, from the scent of leaves beginning their descent into decay to the red and golden hues of the world you can see winter's touch descend upon the world. Overtime the rest of the leaves would fade and fall from their trees. As winter fell the world would seem to descend into darkness, into a bleak and desolate wasteland. Just as the coming of winter affected the forest, regret and doubts over your choices in the past affected your thoughts.
However as much as you may wish to do something differently would you? If you could go back would you do things differently? Would you take that chance? Or would you leave things the same?
If you could change the past… would you? It’s hard to say.
