Dreaming

Wandering around in the darkness it feels as though you'll never escape. Frantically you search; your arms stretched wide around you, your fingers seeking something tangible to grasp. Your outstretched hands meet something silky. It closes in around you; its velvet folds brush your skin sending shivers down your spine. You breathe in and the cloth fills your mouth; as you struggle to breathe the fabric shifts to water and your jaws snap shut.

Even though you know you're underwater you find that you can easily breathe the fluid. There is no obvious light source yet you can see clearly through the crystal liquid. You turn slowly in the water, searching the distant water all around. The ocean seems empty. Just as you are about to give up a light flashes on before you.

The light is a pale eerie green, as you stare the lights slowly pulses out and then gradually begins to light again. It appears that the light source is fairly close; however in this place there is no way to know for sure. Without a second thought you set off towards it.

At first it is easy to pass through the cool water, but as you grow closer to the source of light it grows harder and harder to move. It isn't long before you find yourself trapped in place. In the distance you pick out a wall of white moving steadily towards you. Wherever you look you can see the same wall rushing towards you. As it grows closer you can finally see what it is.

Ice. It's a colossal wall of ice and it's approaching from all directions. Within moments you’re trapped within a sphere of water, yet the glistening ice has not stopped. Still it advances onwards; soon it will reach you. You struggle against the invisible bonds holding you in place to no avail. You can now feel the chill of the ice on your skin. The ice reaches out to caress your leg; its lips burn on your flesh. Your mouth opens to scream, water floods in, and everything changes.

Fields surround you, great fields of green and yellow. In the distance you spot rolling hills and high above is the vibrant blue sky. The wind sweeps through your hair, drawing with it the sweet scent of flowers. You take a step forwards but your foot catches on something hidden in the grass; you tumble forwards into the soft plants and loose dirt.

The world spins as you lie there in the dirt, the clouds so far above are swirling around your head. Eyelashes flutter as your eyes fall shut. The ground disappears beneath you and you find yourself falling.

You sit upright in your bed; the alarm clock facing you reads 4:54 in glowing green numbers. Your fluffy white cat has settled across your feet at the end of the bed and is purring contentedly. Somehow she managed to pull the sheets off of one side of your leg.

Slowly you lay back down; you still don't need to be up for another hour. Your eyes drift shut again and once more you begin to dream.
