Crystal Caverns
The sound of the water in the caves below echoes constantly up through the tunnels behind me. The sound of the running water I can deal with, but the constant dripping that accompanies it gets on my nerves.
I have been in this cavern for three days now. My food is starting to run low so soon I will have to venture back out into the open world. I’ve been postponing my departure because in spite of everything I like it here.
Well that and because it’s dangerous out there. I have been on the run since the soldiers arrived in my village months ago demanding for my head. I'm not sure what I've done to warrant such interest but neither did I want to stay around to find out.
I left, probably not surprising. I've been on the run ever since, dodging the locals and authorities as I move from hiding spot to hiding spot.
And here I am, sitting in this cave listening to the steady hum of flowing water and the inconsistent drip of droplets falling far below.
The cave around me is fairly featureless, one entrance at the front leading to the outside world and another at the back leading deeper into the mountain. Since I only have light which reflects in from outside to see by I can't tell you much more. On my first day here however I did go down the back tunnel. The tunnel itself is an unremarkable crevasse in the dark stone. But after squeezing through it I was rewarded with one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen.
There is a large cavern back there which is lit from somewhere far above. In any case the light reflects off of the crystal encased walls all the way down to the small outcrop on which I stand. The whole cavern glitters, and depending on the time of day the crystal glows different colours. I'm not sure if this is because of different coloured gemstone which the light shines through or reflects off of up above depending on the position of the sun but the effect is breath taking.
It is stunning and it saddens me that soon I will have to leave. I can only hope that one day my name will be cleared and I will be able to find my way back to this seemingly unassuming and yet magical place. That cavern is the only reason I have remained here for so long. Once I finish with this message I will head down there for a while more.
Soon I will emerge out into the world once more and again I will run. Hopefully I will eventually make it to lands where I am not hunted. I wish I knew what I was wanted for. That would make this easier at the very least.
Until then I spend my time standing here, scratching away in this journal leaving this message. I’m considering scratching my name into a wall if I can find a sharp enough stone. I feel that I must leave behind some note of my passage and my findings.
Soon, very soon, I will move on. But not yet.
